Review: Honolulu

Honolulu
Honolulu by Alan Brennert
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Another book that my mom recommended for me but also a very nice look into the history of Hawaii. Told through the eyes of Jin, a picture bride from Korea. She has a not-so-unique situation of immigrants to Hawaii but it is portrayed quite well and Brennert does his best to present all sides of the equation including haoles, locals, fictional and nonfictional characters in his book. I was disappointed that the bombing of Pearl Harbor and its effect on Honolulu was skipped in the timelines as we went from the early Depression straight to 1957. It was a fast read but enjoyable. A good beach or train book to pass the time.
