Review: Lily of the Nile

Lily of the Nile
Lily of the Nile by Stephanie Dray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Absolutely fantastic. I devoured this book as quickly as I could because it was one of the best historical fictions books I have ever read. I know everyone compares this to [b:Cleopatra’s Daughter|6340471|Cleopatra’s Daughter|Michelle Moran||5973842] but they are different. Even the author acknowledges that Moran’s book covers the same subject, Cleopatra Selene, and partly the same timeline but Dray does wonderful new things with her characters and the idea that there is magic in their Ptolemaic blood. I cannot wait for the next book in their series which looks to be amazing and covers a part of Selene’s life that has been neglected in the novels I have seen so far. This is definitely a must read. Love the book Ms Moran but Stephanie Dray holds my heart with Cleopatra Selene as she covers more.

Review: The Orchid Affair

The Orchid Affair
The Orchid Affair by Lauren Willig
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another great addition to the Pink Carnation series. The story may be quite similar to the stories previously it is still always enjoyable and a book I cannot out down. I also love how the story between Colin and Eloise is progressing with new characters like Colin’s mother and the conflicts there. Can’t wait for the next one so I can continue this series.

The Year of the Flood
The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Very interesting new look at the world first began in Oryx and Crake. It was very interesting to see different aspects of those we first saw in the first book but also got a look at the people who were on the sidelines of Oryx, Crake and Snowman. Ren and Toby were interesting to follow to see the different side of God’s Gardeners and the characters who helped to end the world as they knew it. Not the best Atwood has written but it was enjoyable. I hope when the last book of the MaddAddam trilogy comes, it pulls together all of the elements left open in the first two.

Across the Universe
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I could not stop reading this book. I was able to read the first 111 pages on in January and I was blown away and the rest of the novel added up. There were many twists and turns, some obvious and some not. I loved all of the main characters especially Elder and Amy who are the protagonists of the novel. Revis really does an amazing job of fleshing out her characters and having the reader relate to them even though we are not on the spaceship Godspeed traveling 250 years in the future. Absolutely amazing. I was up until past 2 in the morning just so I could finish this book and see where it was going to go. Everyone should read this because it is just one of the best books I have ever read.

Original review on January 11 2011-
I read the first 111 pages online yesterday for free and it blew me away. This novel is going to be amazing! I cannot wait to get my hands on the whole book. You can already see the plot coming together and the central mystery of the story.
